Businesses with alarm and sprinkler systems in the city of Estes Park, Colo., are required to have a Knox Box installed near their front entrances by the end of June, according to an ordinance passed late last month by the town board.
A Knox Box is a specific type of lock box that allows firefighters to gain immediate access to a locked building with a master key in the case of an emergency.
According to an article published in the Estes Park Trail-Gazette, there are already 110 boxes in operation throughout the town. The Knox Box is currently the only lock box system currently approved for use by the Estes Park Fire Department.
