Las Vegas, NV – Viakoo introduced major enhancements to its Device Password Manager (DPM) to enable fast, comprehensive, and coordinated management of passwords within IoT devices and their related applications.
Unlike other solutions for password management that do not work with IoT devices or do not recognize the tightly coupled relationship between IoT/OT devices and the applications they are tied to, Viakoo DPM can ensure that password changes are made at scale across a fleet of IoT/OT devices with full repatriation of the entire workflow.
DPM also provides password strength assessment, generation of unique passwords for each device, and ensures that default or easily guessed passwords are not present within the device network.
The Viakoo DPM solution is a first of its kind solution designed to ensure that not only the device password is updated but that the applications connected to the device that require that same password are updated as well.
For example, updating the password on an IP camera also requires updating the video management system (VMS) application with the device password so it can coordinate with the device. Additionally, having integrated password strength assessment and automated password generation allows users of Viakoo DPM to implement and manage to their organization’s unique information security and password policies.
“With physical security and IoT/OT devices as the fastest growing cyber-attack surface, the need to quickly and comprehensively rotate passwords is a requirement to be resilient to and recover from cyber breaches. Manual methods simply don’t scale, allowing threat actors more time to exploit an organization,” said Bud Broomhead, CEO, Viakoo. “Unlike other approaches to password management, Viakoo’s close partnership with leading device and application manufacturers gives us a unique position to provide a fully automated solution that includes tightly coupled IoT/OT systems.”
