The Cobalt Series addresses two of the most overlooked issues in door locking: The ability to align a misaligned door; and the ability to release when requested, even with excessive side-load on the door.
The locks are typically used in commercial and residential situations and are controlled by existing access control systems, allowing users to control access in and around a facility and have a full line of reporting features such as door position, bolt position and provide traffic reports when desired.

What are the benefits of the YD30S for end-users?
The Cobalt Single (YD30S) has been engineered to release when requested, even under significant side-load pressure, something a traditional electromechanical lock isn’t designed to do. Side-load pressure of up to 225 pounds can be applied to the door and the YD30S will still release when requested.
In many large access control systems, reporting and feedback is key to a lock’s success. The Cobalt Single offers feedback to the control panel of the door position and bolt positions as a standard feature. With the ability to monitor the position of the door, and whether the bolt pin is extended or retracted, the YD30S provides vital information needed to ensure a site is safe and secure.
The Cobalt Single also offers flexibility in installation as it only requires standard low voltage power and signals wires to operate. This allows the lock to connect to any access system, making installation straightforward and easy.
How does this product help integrators to secure misaligned doors?
A common problem with traditional electromechanical locks is that they don’t have the capabilities to pull the lock into the final position. With its patented innovative bolt and strike design, we have engineered the Cobalt Series to automatically align a door that has difficulties closing fully. This is where the Cobalt Series mitigates that risk by pulling the door into alignment to ensure it fully closes and locks securely.
Through years of research and feedback from our customers, misalignment in doors was proving to be a critical failure in security and access control. That’s why the cobalt Series also has an innovative misalignment correction mechanism. The pivot action of the Cobalt Series bolt pin will ‘grab’ the strike plate and pull the door into position for a misalignment up to 8mm (5/16”) for the single and 16mm ( ± 5/16”) for the double.
For example, on a swing door, pressure could be applied from either side, and the lock will still release when needed. Side-load pressure release was initially designed as a safety feature where the lock will release in an emergency’ however, we’ve seen the convenience of this recognized in historic buildings with warped door frames and where verious types of weather seals are creating pressure.
More commonly we have seen industrial HVAC pressure in nearly every commercial building creating positive and negative pressure against doors. This pressure causes traditional electromechanical locks to bind, creating ussues in site security.
What are the ideal use cases for the product?
Both Cobalt locks are built to handle all traffic volumes and have been developed to excel where security is a concern and feedback is a priority. Looking to solve misalignment issues in security and release when requested under side-load pressure, the cobalt Series has been used in all verticals and sectors globally.
Commonly mortised either vertically or horizontally in a standard door, the YD30S also offers surface housings for side mounting directly onto doors and frames. These housings are designed to attach to glass, aluminium, steel and wood.
Architects prefer this lock as it allows them to see their creative vision come to life without the typical constraints of a standard security system. As the locks seamlessly integrate into both the door and into the buildings access control system, more importantly, It allows the security of the building to not impact the look, feel and creative vision of the building. Designed to work where security is paramount, convenience required, and appearances key.
What are some of the features that make this product unique?
The unique design of the Cobalt Series uses a collapsing mechanism that is deadbolted when locked and will unlock when requested even with 1,000N (225 lbs) of side-loading force on the door. A feature the market has wanted for years, but no-other lock can offer.
As with any high-end electromechanical lock, high strength creates high security. The Cobalt Series both have 10mm thick stainless steel bolt pins (One for the single, two for the double), which create a holding force in excess of 10,000N (2250 lbs) and a built in functionality that provides an auto relock for added security. High strength paired with the durability of a lock tested to over 300,000 cycles, it is easy to see why the cobalt Series is quickly becoming the industry standard for all high-traffic environments.
We have seen a shift to a more eco-conscious and energy-efficient industry, the cobalt Series will draw as little as 40mA in standby and only 300mA in operation at 12VDC. Low current paired with high-security access control makes the cobalt Series the preferred product choice for many industry leaders.
What certifications does the product have (or are planned)?
As expected of a high-security lock in the American market, the Cobalt Series has been designed to meet and exceed the compliance certifications for UL Listed (US/C), CE, UKCA, FCC and IC.
BQT Solutions is currently testing to meet and exceed UL1034 (Safety Burglary-Resistant Electric Locking Mechanism) for strength testing, as well as exceeding EN14846 for the safety and performance of the cobalt Series.
Other standards include but not limited to: EN14846, ULC-S533-15, EN1634-1, IEC 61000-6-1, IEC 61000-6-3, FCC 15B, ICES-003 (Class B).
