Suited for indoor and outdoor environments, the award-winning YG80 is a motor-driven, high-strength lock for securing any opening that needs true security. Learn more about the product in this exclusive Q&A with Jonathan Wendt, BQT’s Head of Global Sales:
For what application(s) was the lock originally designed, and how has it evolved?
How does it connect to enterprise access control systems, and what information about the lock can be monitored?
Wendt: The engineers at BQT Solutions designed the YG80 to be a fully monitored lock that integrates directly into an access control system, ensuring a facility is fully monitored and secure at all times. The YG80 has a full range of output signals, including bolt locked and unlocked position, door position and tamper detection, which combined give the user a very accurate picture of the lock status. This is all easily and directly integrated into any enterprise access control system, as you would expect with any other high-security lock simply requiring 12-24VDC power.
Door position monitor – By monitoring the position of the door, the access control system and security team can have confidence that the door is in its intended position, open or closed. Having this feature built into the lock and matching strike plate offers added security and convenience.
Bolt position locked monitor – When the bolt position locked monitor is activated, a user can be assured that the bolt pin is fully extended, and that the entry is secure. This feedback, along with a closed-door position signal, gives confidence in the security of a site.
Bolt position unlocked monitor – By monitoring the bolt position when it is unlocked, an access control system and security team can make informed decisions knowing the bolt pin is now fully retracted. This is ideal for large facilities with multiple motorized doors that rely on signals to operate and avoids human errors that can cause costly mistakes.
Tamper monitor – The YG80 is often used in outdoor environments where the public can access and attempt a security breach. The YG80 offers peace of mind by monitoring the position of the lock’s secure shield (Cover). If the shield is removed, an alarm signal is sent, and the YG80 can alert the access control system to a possible security breach. What are some of the unique features of this lock that make it suitable for specialized applications?
High Security – With an 18mm diameter stainless steel bolt pin and reinforced strike design, the YG80 has a tested and approved holding force that exceeds the highest level of the UL Burglary Resistant Electric Locking standard UL 1034. The mounting bolts for the lock are concealed under the lock’s cover, which cannot be removed without triggering the tamper detection monitor.
Weatherproof – The YG80 has been designed with weatherproofing as a critical feature, including an IP67 certified design, an E-coated aluminum lock body and strike for corrosion resistance, and a built-in heater for continued functionality in sub-zero climates. With these features, it can handle any environment.
Complete Monitoring and Diagnostics – The YG80 connects to an access control system to display the status of the lock for security. On top of this, the YG80 also offers on site diagnostic capabilities for power supply, lock cycle count, motor health and lock alignment.
How does it provide installation flexibility?
The versatile installation comes from the YG80’s symmetrical design. It can be installed both horizontally and vertically in indoor and outdoor environments. A unique two-part design allows the lock to be installed in almost any form of challenging environment. By offering 360-degree installation on all angles, the YG80 can provide a secure locking solution for a full range of access control installation applications and truly excels where strength and weatherproofing are key in unrelenting environments.
What specifications and certifications make this lock distinctive in the market?
The YG80 holds a range of standard compliance and certifications* while exceeding key standards in strength and weatherproofing. The YG80 is not only UL listed, but it also exceeds UL strength testing to ensure the lock is capable in heavy-duty security breach situations. Its IP67 rating is the highest weatherproof rating available.* Compliance and certifications of the YG80 include: CE Compliant, RoHS 2 Compliant FCC Part 15 / ISED CompliantIP67 Ingress Protection Grade 4 Corrosion Resistance (EN 1670:2007) Cold Operation -35°C (EN 60068-2-1:2007) Dry Heat Operation +70°C (EN 60068-2-2:2007).
What are ideal target applications for this product?
With the flexibility of this lock, the YG80 can work with any application where high strength or weatherproof operation is necessary. Some of the verticals we have seen the YG80 excel in are the transportation industry, government sectors and an agricultural setting.
For transportation, we have seen the YG80 used to secure everything from storage warehouse and shipping containers to trucking trailers driving across America – it is securing goods in transit across the world. Governments have used the YG80 in airports, in the military, prisons and police stations due to its extreme strength and monitoring capabilities. In agriculture, we have seen the YG80 installed on gates and warehousing on commercial farms that require a higher level of security. One of the more unique places we have seen YG80 installed is an elephant enclosure in an Australian Zoo, where the strength, weatherproofing and monitoring are key to the safety and security of the world’s largest land animal. We are excited to see what other unique security solutions the YG80 can solve in the future.
