Altronix's New Maxim 55 Offers Power Plus Access Control System Management
Las Vegas, NV (September 24, 2007) - As system integration continues to become standard practice for combining security, life safety and access control, installers and contractors now have a cost-efficient solution for power management with the introduction of Altronix's Maxim 55 Access Power Controllers. Designed to distribute, route and switch power for access control hardware and accessories, Maxim 55 Access Power Controllers feature two power supply chargers and two eight output access power controllers mounted in a unique enclosure with sixteen independently controlled fuse-protected 12VDC outputs.

The Maxim 55's filtered and electronically regulated fail safe/fail secure outputs are activated by an open collector sink or normally open dry trigger input received from an access control panel, stand-alone keypad, push button or other request for exit (REX) devices such as a PIR. Power is then routed to the access control hardware which includes mag locks, electric strikes or magnetic door holders. The 16 fail safe/fail secure power outputs can be converted to dry form "C" relay outputs in any combination in the field. Additionally, 16 auxiliary (unswitched) power outputs are provided for card readers and other devices.
The Maxim 55 is complete with an FAI (Fire Alarm Interface), which enables emergency egress, alarm monitoring outputs and the option of triggering various auxiliary devices. The fire alarm disconnect feature (latching or non-latching) is individually selectable for any or all of the 16 outputs. For at-a-glance convenience, LEDs indicate whether these outputs or the FAI disconnects are triggered.
The Maxim 55 delivers 12VDC which is rated at 20 amp max. It is designed to charge sealed lead acid or gel-type batteries and also features AC fail supervision, battery fail and battery presence supervision. The unit's purposely designed oversized enclosure permits flexible wire management and includes ample room for up to four 12AH rechargeable batteries. Many other new Maxim models are available with various power ratings in 12VDC or 24VDC versions or combinations of both with either fused or PTC protected outputs.
