Company lands $4 million in contracts for security at Cape, fire detection at Patrick Air Force Base

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The 45th Space Wing of the U.S. Air Force has awarded Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. more than $4 million in two separate contracts to provide electronic security system upgrades to the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, and fire alarm and detection improvements to Patrick Air Force Base.

Working with Northrop Grumman Corporation, Siemens will install and integrate new security access and CCTV (closed circuit television) system improvements for 62 buildings at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Equipment installation began in late October. Siemens expects to have all systems operational by September 2006.

Under a separate contract, Siemens will install a new WAN (wide area network) fire alarm system and three associated fire detection systems at Patrick Air Force Base. The WAN and detection systems will link approximately 200 buildings on the base to a centralized command center, providing interactive, bi-directional communication between each building and the center. The network will also enable the command center to remotely implement maintenance services. System installation, which began in October, 2005, and is expected to be completed by August 2006, will cause no interruption to the operation of the fire safety systems on the base.

"These projects exemplify the dedication Siemens has to providing the 45th Space Wing with the best total solution to its security and life safety needs," said Siemens Federal Account Executive Bill Watson.

With a full-service branch office less than a mile away from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Siemens has been providing fire safety technology and services to the 45th Space Wing and Kennedy Space Center for more than 12 years.

Two years ago, Siemens began the installation of a new wireless mass notification system at the Ascension Island Base which, together with Patrick Air Force Base and several other locations, forms a complex of tracking stations and launch sites for the Eastern Missile Range of the U.S. Air Force. The mass notification system on Ascension Island ties both the fire safety and security systems together, and allows announcements to be broadcast to individual buildings on the base from a central location.
