StarTech.com, manufacturer of connectivity parts, has released the PCI Express Serial Card, model PEX2S952PW, with selectable 5v/12v power output, which enables users to configure the voltage output of the RS232 (DB9) serial ports, based on the requirements of connected devices.
Devices that commonly use RS232 connections include surveillance cameras, industrial machinery, POS equipment, kiosks and ATMs. Features of the new PCIe Serial Card include:
- Two high-speed RS232 serial ports with data transfer rates up to 920 Kbps
- Selectable 5v or 12v power
- Includes both low and full profile brackets
- High Performance Dual Channel Oxford 16C950 UART
- ±15KV ESD surge protection on all signal pins
“This latest addition to our serial card line opens the door to more applications, host systems and serial devices, through its flexibility as an add-on serial solution,” said Carey Cline, senior product manager for StarTech.com’s Add-on Cards product line. “The card is based on a native single-chip, single lane PCI Express architecture and includes a half-height bracket for installations in small form factor computers, so not only will users be able to harness true PCI Express performance, they’ll also be able to install the adapter card in a wider array of systems”.
