Police in N.H. Getting out of Monitoring Business

It's hard to believe but the police department in Bow, N.H., have been competition for your local accounts.

That's because the Bow Police Department has been directly monitoring alarm since the 1980s for the low, low price of "free." Electronic intrusion alarms directly signaled the police station, reports the Concord Monitor newspaper.

According to the police department, the system was out-of-date and was creating problems with maintenance.

After a review of the system, all alarm customers will need to turn to private monitoring services (from your central station, perhaps) by Dec. 1, 2006, when the direct-monitoring station at the Bow P.D. is shut down.

That's one central station where "attrition" isn't a bad word.
