ESA updates requirements on popular certifications

ESA’s National Training School updates Certified Alarm Technician Level II (CAT II), the Certified Fire Alarm Technician Level II (CFAT) and Certified Fire Alarm Designer (CFAD) Level III

ESA’s National Training School has updated requirements for obtaining its most popular certifications, including the Certified Alarm Technician Level II (CAT II), the Certified Fire Alarm Technician Level II (CFAT) and the Certified Fire Alarm Designer (CFAD) Level III. The changes allow for certifications to meet the evolving requirements of many states and make them more valuable for industry professionals.

Certified Alarm Technician Level II (CAT II) and Certified Fire Alarm Technician Level II (CFAT)
While the specific training and experience requirements for earning the Certified Alarm Technician Level II (CAT II) and Certified Fire Alarm Technician Level II (CFAT) certifications remain unchanged — students are still required to complete the same prescribed classwork and provide proof of 24 months of industry experience — the updated applications for certification have been revised to include components for verifying work history and field competency.

Certified Fire Alarm Designer (CFAD)
While the prescribed coursework has not changed for obtaining this certification, all candidates must now show proof of 60 months of experience and pass a comprehensive exam after successfully completing all courses. The updated application for this certification has been revised to include components for verifying work history, field competency and now includes a personal recommendation form, which must be completed by a professional who is familiar with the professionalism, ethical standards and technical abilities of the applicant.
