SimpliSafe is expanding its reach beyond the home to serve small and medium businesses with a new suite of security solutions designed for flexibility, affordability and proactive protection. The Boston-based company announced the formal launch of its SimpliSafe Business Security platform, which introduces four monitoring plans and new features such as AI-powered video analytics, live agent deterrence and customizable system controls.

According to the company, the new offerings build on an existing foundation: more than 100,000 small and medium businesses already use SimpliSafe systems, many of them after adopting the technology in their homes.

“We have been serving small and medium businesses now for quite some time,” Hooman Shahidi, Chief Product Officer at SimpliSafe, told SecurityInfoWatch. “A lot of customers got familiar with SimpliSafe through using it in their homes, and they also happen to be proprietors in a small or medium business and end up choosing SimpliSafe as a solution.”

That continued growth now unfolds under new ownership following SimpliSafe’s acquisition by private equity firm GTCR, which also owns Everon, the rebranded ADT Commercial business.

Listening to business owners

Before introducing its dedicated business platform, Shahidi said SimpliSafe’s product and research teams spent months visiting small-business customers and prospects to better understand their environments. The company defined its target segment as businesses occupying roughly 5,000 to 7,000 square feet or less, typically including coffee shops, restaurants, retail stores and professional offices.

“We actually spent a pretty significant amount of time doing some deep dives with our small and medium-sized businesses that we currently serve as well as businesses that are currently not SimpliSafe customers,” Shahidi explained. “They really appreciate the simplicity of our setup and install because it’s much harder to get a wired system in a rented space, and if they move their business, it’s much easier to take SimpliSafe with them.”

He added that the value proposition — professional monitoring and active deterrence at a lower monthly cost — has resonated strongly with business owners who prioritize mobility and low overhead.

Designing security for small business needs

To address commercial requirements, SimpliSafe has added new capabilities around multi-user access, role-based permissions and audit features that allow owners to track who arms or disarms the system.

“Although that’s important for the home customer, it’s pretty vital for the business customer,” Shahidi said. “Just knowing that someone showed up at 9 a.m. and did what they needed to do in the establishment. That accountability is key.”

The company also introduced a web-based multi-camera viewing experience, enabling users to see multiple feeds simultaneously. Shahidi said this mirrors the traditional video surveillance setups many businesses rely on but integrates directly into SimpliSafe’s monitoring interface.

To provide flexibility, the system can be configured to fit different layouts and budgets through easy-to-add sensors and accessories. Businesses can choose between DIY or professional installation. Each plan includes environmental monitoring options for conditions such as leaks or temperature extremes, plus 30-day cloud video storage for up to 10 cameras.

Shahidi noted that the company refined its environmental sensing approach after finding that most small businesses operate in multi-tenant buildings where the landlord maintains the primary fire system. For those cases, SimpliSafe provides real-time alerts and app notifications when smoke or carbon-monoxide events occur, offering tenants better situational awareness rather than serving as the main fire-alarm mechanism.

Proactive protection through AI and live monitoring

The business platform extends two of SimpliSafe’s newer capabilities — Active Guard and Intruder Intervention — that blend artificial intelligence (AI) with live monitoring agents. These services enable agents to observe outdoor spaces, assess potential threats and speak directly through cameras to deter suspicious activity before a break-in occurs.

“If you can act even before the bad person breaches the four walls of either the residence or the business, you have really sped up the ability for us to protect our customers,” Shahidi said. “That’s where Active Guard comes into play, where our monitoring specialists can actually see what’s going on and be a human dealing with the situation before it escalates.”

He recalled several recent incidents in which remote intervention prevented theft or property damage, including one where a monitoring specialist confronted suspects attempting to break into a van loaded with video equipment.

Shahidi described SimpliSafe’s AI strategy as intentionally conservative, designed to enhance efficiency without removing human judgment from the process.

“We’re really focused on leveraging AI to filter out situations that are clearly nonthreatening so they’re handled before they get to the agent,” he said. “We have this dual layer of AI where the camera does one thing and then we send it to the cloud, which is a much more powerful model and does the final filtering.”

By combining device-level and cloud-based models, SimpliSafe can reduce false notifications and maintain cost efficiency. Final alarm decisions remain in the hands of trained monitoring specialists, ensuring that automation never replaces human validation.

Expanding access and looking ahead

While SimpliSafe’s core business remains direct-to-consumer, the company is also expanding its relationships with installation partners to reach customers who prefer professional setup.

“You’re really talking about two very different types of customers,” Shahidi said. “Our direct e-commerce channel is phenomenal for the person who knows what they want and wants to do it themselves. But there are customers who can really benefit from what we offer — both from a product standpoint and a service standpoint — who just don’t want to do DIY.”

He said these partnerships allow SimpliSafe to meet customers “where they are” without changing the brand’s month-to-month flexibility or pricing model.

SimpliSafe’s new business monitoring tiers — Standard ($24.99), Core ($34.99), Pro ($69.99) and Pro Plus ($99.99) per month — are available exclusively through SimpliSafe.com. All include 24/7 professional monitoring, mobile alerts and remote system control.

Each plan also includes access to elevated business customer support, with dedicated assistance designed to keep systems running smoothly and resolve issues quickly.

The company said its new Anti-Theft Guarantee offers reimbursement of up to $500 toward an insurance deductible if a burglary occurs while the system is armed and monitored under eligible Pro and Pro Plus plans.

Shahidi hinted that SimpliSafe will continue to invest heavily in video capabilities and monitoring innovation for small and medium businesses.

“Video is a big thing for these customers,” he said. “As we think about the future, you’ll see us doubling down on video for these small and medium-sized businesses as being a really big opportunity.”
