The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Wednesday announced that UTC is recalling ESL and Interlogix brand 400/500 series smoke detectors over concerns that radio frequency interference could cause the detectors to fail in the event of a fire.
According to a statement issued by the commission, the recall involves 33 models of the 400 and 500 series Edwards (ESL)-branded and Interlogix smoke detectors - about 141,000 units in the U.S. and 13,000 units in Canada – that are hard-wired into security systems. Â
The detectors, which are identical to one another, were sold from March 2013 to February 2014. They were made for professional installation and used primarily in commercial buildings, schools, hotels/motels, apartments, dormitories and homes. Â
