Aug. 14--VIENNA -- A female train passenger and the Swiss man who attacked her both died on Sunday, one day after he launched a knife and fire assault on a train in north-eastern Switzerland, police said.
The 34-year-old woman and the 27-year-old assailant were among seven people injured when the man, armed with a knife and flammable liquid, attacked train passengers on Saturday in the Swiss canton of St Gallen.
The man stabbed passengers at random and poured the flammable liquid in front of a woman on the train before it caught fire, the police said. The motive for the attack remained unclear, police added.
There is no indication that the incident was an act of terror, police said.
The attack resembles one carried out on July 18, when a 17-year-old Afghan refugee armed with a knife and an axe injured five commuter train passengers in the southern German city of Wuerzburg.
