Keyfactor and Quantinuum announce integration to future-proof digital certificates
Keyfactor and Quantinuum have partnered to strengthen the root of trust, a critical component in reliable public key infrastructures (PKIs) and code signing.
This integration is an important first step in a journey to protect Keyfactor’s users against multiple present-day and future cybersecurity risks, including the growing threat to encrypted communications posed by the potential misuse of rapidly advancing quantum computing technology.
Traditional digital certificates at risk
Transactions and communications protected by digital certificates are under threat. The traditional technologies used to generate certificates that secure digital interactions will be at risk from advanced cyberattacks, particularly as the computational power of quantum computers advances. If the certificates can be broken, the security of banking, e-commerce, and machine-to-machine connections could be compromised by undetectable attacks.
To mitigate this threat, governments and enterprises across the globe are beginning to move to quantum-safe cryptography solutions. An important first step on this journey is strengthening the entropy used when generating certificates. Stronger entropy helps protect certificates from sophisticated attacks, and remains a critical component as fully quantum-safe solutions are deployed.
Quantum strengthened certificates
To protect encrypted communications against these rising threats, Keyfactor now offers a PKI platform that integrates with Quantum Origin, the world’s only verified source of quantum entropy.
Integrating quantum entropy into Keyfactor EJBCA strengthens the root of trust used to provide certificates. Quantum-strengthening the root of trust reduces the risk that sophisticated attackers could crack the certificates and use that information to compromise digital systems.
“Quantum-readiness hinges on an organization’s knowledge of its cryptography and ability to defend itself against advanced threats. In this new era of cybersecurity, leaders are feeling a heightened sense of urgency to implement solutions that will secure digital interactions and communications before quantum computing becomes a reality,” said Joe Tong, Senior Vice President of Global Channel Sales, Keyfactor. “Keyfactor’s partnership with Quantinuum provides customers with trust-based solutions that are hardened with quantum technology. Together with Quantinuum, we are building strong cybersecurity foundations for the future, one step at a time.”
“The security and integrity of digital communications and transactions depends on the strength of digital certificates. By integrating Quantum Origin, Keyfactor’s customers can now leverage the world’s only source of verified quantum entropy to strengthen certificate generation.” said Duncan Jones, Head of Cybersecurity at Quantinuum.
