New Canadian Gaming Association Formed

TORONTO -- Several of Canada's leading gaming operators, equipment manufacturers and suppliers today announced the creation of a new industry association to be the national voice for the industry.
Veteran industry expert, William Rutsey has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the association.
"The Canadian gaming industry generates approximately $7 billion in revenue to support government programs, charitable causes and community organizations and employs over fifty thousand people across the country," stated Rutsey. "It is critical that we educate the public on the importance of this industry to the economy and promote the interests of the thousands of businesses across the country who depend on gaming entertainment for their livelihood."
Still in the early stages of its development, the new association plans a series of announcements over the coming months to communicate its structure, policy positions, etc. The President and Chief Executive Officer did however, set out the mandate for the organization; "We will provide leadership to our industry and proactively address the legislative and regulatory issues that affect our members. And we will create a better understanding of the gaming entertainment industry in Canada through education and awareness programs."
The association will be governed by a chair, an elected board of directors and will be located in the Toronto financial district.

Over the last several years, the Canadian gaming entertainment industry has experienced unprecedented growth and success, generating in excess of $12 billion in overall revenue (02/03) and driving approximately $7 billion to government programs and charitable causes. The industry currently employs over 50,000 Canadians across the country.
In order to ensure the long-term health of this invaluable asset, it is critical that the Canadian public has a better understanding of the gaming entertainment industry and the issues that affect thousands of businesses across the country who depend on it for their livelihood.
The mandate of the association is to provide leadership and a national voice on these issues and to create a better understanding of the industry through education and awareness.
Comprised of Canada's leading gaming operators, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, the founding members of the association include: Magna Entertainment, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Casino Windsor, Casino Rama, Falls Management Company, IGT Canada, Scientific Games, WMS Gaming, Great Canadian Casinos, Gateway Casinos, Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority and TD Securities.
The association has an elected Board of Directors and a membership committee.
