The Medical University of South Carolina has broken ground on the site for a new hospital in Charleston, S.C.
The hospital, which will have 156-beds and 32 intensive care beds, will encompass 641,000 square feet, and is scheduled to be completed by 2008.
Systems integration will be key to the hospital's construction, including plans for a digital record system that makes patient records available to doctors at almost any monitor, and video-conferencing and monitoring between patients and doctors.
The hospital is expected to cost $276 million.
