ROCKVILLE, Md. -- A Montgomery County Jewish school will get $100,000 to increase security on its two campuses, Gov. Robert Ehrlich said Tuesday.
Ehrlich said the state was the first in the nation to devote money from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to a Jewish school. The money will be used to upgrade technical and physical security at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.
"There are people in the world who want to do harm," Ehrlich said Tuesday at a school assembly. "They want you to be fearful about leaving this school and arriving at this school daily."
Ehrlich asked the federal government for the ability to give homeland security money to a non-governmental organization after a Saudi national was seen videotaping a Jewish school in Baltimore. The man was not charged with any crime.
