The Electronic Security Association (ESA), a Texas-based electronic life safety and security trade association, installed John Knox as the president for 2012-2014 on June 28 during the annual membership meeting at the ESA Summer Conference at Electronic Security Expo (ESX).
Before becoming president, Knox served as an executive board member for ESA and became owner and president of Life & Property Security Systems in Knoxville.
He said one goal as president includes reaching out to smaller companies who sometimes don’t feel connected to the association.
“I think a lot of the smaller companies think they can’t make a difference because of their size,” he said. “I want to work with them and show them that they really can make a difference, especially at the local level. I also understand larger companies, and the kind of things they need to take away from their membership. But if we can somehow motivate the smaller companies, it’ll grow the association.”
In addition to announcing Knox as president, ESA announced four newly elected officers: vice presidents Roy Pollack, Marshall Marinace, Robert Michel and Secretary Bill Cooper.
The new terms officially began on July 1, 2012. The current president, Charles A. “Dom” D’Ascoli, will continue to serve on the Executive Committee for two years as Immediate Past President. Knox praised D’Ascoli for his leadership in a challenging business environment.
“In my opinion, over the past couple of years, Dom has been the orchestrator of the greatest amount of change that the association has ever gone through,” Knox said.
