The Women’s Security Council, a group of security professionals who work to promote the advancement of women in the industry, announced a new security scholarship program for female students during its annual reception at ISC West. The event also included recognition of the winners of the 2014 WSC Women of the Year awards.
The WSC scholarship program will support women focused on studies in the security market and will be awarded for the 2015 academic year. It will be used toward tuition for a two-year degree at Mercer County Community College or another aligned college program that combines security-specific training, liberal arts and business classes.
The scholarship program was developed in partnership with the Security Industry Association (SIA) and ISC Events, and is made possible with financial support from both organizations. The overall goal of the program is to increase diversity in the industry and allow more individuals to gain access to its rich pool of career opportunities.
In addition to the scholarship news, the WSC reception included special recognition of the winners of the 2014 Women of the Year Awards. The program, which began in 2010, honors successful female professionals in the security industry, taking into account their industry and work experience, volunteer efforts and industry reputation.
