NJESA announces winners of Youth Scholarship Program
The New Jersey Electronic Security Association (NJESA), which represents electronic security professionals, system integrators, fire alarm companies, manufacturers and distributors that do business in New Jersey, has announced the winners of the state´s Youth Scholarship Program. Jacob Fritz was selected as the first-place winner and will receive a $1,500 check from the association. Andrew Griffin, who was chosen as the second-place winner of the award will receive a check for $1,000.
Awards are based on a combination of academic achievement, national test scores, extracurricular participation and the essay. In addition to completing the application and submitting the appropriate documentation, each student must write an essay explaining “What it means to me to have my parent or guardian involved in securing our community.
Jacob Fritz of Parlin, NJ attends Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences. In addition to the Youth Scholarship Award, he has already been presented with the Most Valuable Sophomore and Most Valuable Junior for the Sayreville Swim Team, the Academy Award for integrity and Other Traits from his high school and has been on the Honor Roll for having a 3.75 GPA or higher in the first two marking periods of both his Junior and Senior years. Jacob has been accepted to Seton Hall University, Quinnipiac University, Penn State Abington and the University of Sciences. His father, Jonathan Fritz, is a staff sergeant with the NJ State Police at the NJSP Cartaret Station.
Andrew Griffin of Whippany, NJ attends Whippany Park High School and has maintained a 4.75 GPA. He has been nominated for The Governor’s School of Engineering, received an Excellence in Social Studies Award, was finalist for the New Jersey Scholars Program, Lawrenceville School, awarded Outstanding Leadership - Novartis Multicultural Teen Mentoring Program and was presented with President Barack Obama’s Educational Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence. He has been accepted to the University of Virginia. His father, Brian Griffin, is a firefighter with the Bloomfield Fire Department.
“Our committee was truly impressed with the applications submitted by both Jacob and Andrew and the writing skills they demonstrated in their essay,” stated Christine Marzano, president of the NJESA.
“Their academic achievements are quite impressive, as are their extracurricular and community activities. Both are a shining example of what a student is capable of accomplishing, and their knowledge, skills, and abilities should serve them well in their academic pursuits.”
The first-place winner from New Jersey is eligible for the national scholarship awards from the Electronic Security Association (ESA). The ESA Youth Scholarship Program awards the first-place national winner $7,500 and the second-place national winner $2,500.
Both Jacob and Andrew, along with their parents, are invited to attend the NJESA Annual Golf Outing at the Old York Country Club in Chesterfield, NJ on June 18, 2019 where the association will present them with their checks.
