iPIDs Intelligent Perimeter Intrusion Detection System from Aventura
Aventura will be showcasing at ISC West its iPIDs Intelligent Perimeter Intrusion Detection System.
What makes iPIDs by Aventura unique? The groundbreaking (no pun intended!) technology provides users a highly accurate and reliable perimeter intrusion system without all the false alarms, limitations and drawbacks of traditional fiber optic and vibration sensing systems.
Individual Sensor Settings and Precision Accuracy
The sensitivity of each individual iPIDs sensor can be adjusted or set according to the fence, barrier or object on which the iPIDs is installed with an accuracy to 2m.
Fiber optic cable require multiple sensor lines when using varying configurations which include walls, mesh fence, welded fences, etc. While they can have 3m detection capability they cannot adjust the sensitivity and detection parameters increasing significantly detection errors.
Vibration sensing systems lack the ability to adjust the mechanical inertial sensors, which utilize piezoelectric technology and detection zones are typically between 100m and 150m.
Intelligent Alarm Detection Data
Each iPIDs sensor communicates independent data to a zone processor card. The data from iPIDs sensors is compared with adjacent iPIDs sensors in order to establish whether the alarm is a real alarm or false, together with the exact location of the alarm to the level of each iPIDs sensor.
Fiber optic provides no specific data from different parts of the fiber optic cable line. The cable is set to receive data which represents the average detection levels determined for the entire sensor line. There is no comparison of data from different sections of the fence.
Vibration sensing systems offer no independent data from individual mechanical sensors and lack ability to identify which sensor is malfunctioning. Piezoelectric sensors do provide independent alarm indications, and the reliability and performance of the alarm indication will be directly related to the way the sensor detects. The capability to maintain the highest detection – lowest false alarm rate ratio is limited by the piezoelectric sensor’s mechanical technology limitations.
High Detection Sensitivity and 99+% Accuracy
The iPIDs system is continuously and intelligently adapting to environmental conditions and as a result has a very low level of false and nuisance alarms. There is no need to lower the sensitivity of the system in order to filter out possible problems caused by environmental conditions. The entire system always operates at the highest possible detection capability. Accuracy enhancement is accomplished using separate x and y axis detection, which can be calibrated; something not available in competing technologies.
The detection sensitivity of the fiber optic system will be set to the level at which false alarms rates are kept to a minimum and not to the highest detection capability of the system. The sensitivity of the system is lowered in order to prevent false alarms. This however also lowers the detection capability of the system, therefore lowering the level of security in that installation. The detection level is always set at a level which can be defined as a compromise between detection capability and false alarm rates.
Mechanical inertial sensors utilized by the vibration sensing architecture rely on the physical movement of the detection elements of the sensor to detect an alarm. Piezoelectric components also rely on the physical movement of the mechanical part of the sensor. Adverse weather conditions such as high wind conditions can therefore be a common source of false alarms in these types of systems. As well, changes in the fence structure can cause the setting of the vibration sensor to be disturbed, which can also be a cause of false alarms.
Solid State Design
The iPIDs has no moving parts meaning high MTBF as parts cannot wear out and do not have to be replaced. The iPIDs sensor consists entirely of electronic parts (solid-state electronics). The system does not rely on the mechanical movement of sensor parts in order to detect an intrusion.
Vibration sensing systems rely on a mechanical inertial sensor that has moveable parts which are prone to wear out over time. The moving parts can lock up as a result of dust entering the sensor causing the sensor to malfunction.
High Availability Design
The iPIDs system operates from cabinets installed around the fence perimeter, typically operating in 150m sections. Cutting the sensor line means that a maximum of 150m will cease operating. Fiber Optic System Electronics are typically run from one central position. Cutting the cable will mean that the entire fiber optic cable will stop functioning.
Easy Installation
The iPIDs sensors can be installed (on the fence/fence wires, wall, etc.) without any need to level or calibrate the sensors. No expertise is required to install the sensors on the fence and as a result lower installation costs. The iPIDs system can be installed on a wider range of conventional fences including electric fencing wires, and fences that are in a relatively bad condition. The adaptive capability of the sensor causes the sensor to adapt to the conditions on the fence/fence wires. The fence–mounted systems require the fence to be in good condition. Otherwise the system will be prone to a high level of false alarms. The fence has to be maintained in good condition in order to maintain a good detection capability. Installation on electric fence wires or barbed wire fences is not possible.
Piezoelectric mechanical sensors need to be levelled and set in order to operate without false alarms. The time taken to install the system is therefore longer. This results in increased costs of installation.Maintenance-FreeThe iPIDs sensors do not require any post installation maintenance procedures. Reconnecting ofcut iPIDs sensor lines does not require any technical expertise.
Reconnecting cut fiber optic cable requires the expertise of a technician proficient in the splicing of fiber optic cable. Piezoelectric mechanical sensors may have to be reset and leveled in the event of movements of the fence infrastructure.
Wide Range of Applications
The iPIDs system suits the broadest range of applications due to its state-of-the-art technological capabilities. iPIDs can be installed on electric fencing wires, fencing wires of conventional fencing, on walls, metal bars or combinations thereof.
Competing technologies require a finite suitable infrastructure which often may require extensive construction or renovation.
