NEW YORK - Although ISC East show organizer Reed Exhibitions announced a co-located Unmanned Security & Safety Expo for 2018 before the event, drones were a hot topic in 2017 at the annual November event in New York.
A drone-related product – Easy Guard from Edison, N.J.-based Easy Aerial – took home top honors at the second “Tech Tank @ ISC East” event. The Tech Tank allows five vendor finalists to pitch their new technology for five minutes live on stage at the show. Attendees viewed all presentations, then voted live with an app to select the winner.
Easy Guard is a mobile ground station that provides charging capabilities and protection from the elements for the company’s Easy Drone. GPS technology guides the drone to the station; then, an infrared guiding system precisely lands the drone.
The Easy Guard product joined Qognify’s Extend situation management product; STid’s Mobile ID credentialing system; iLAW’s law enforcement body camera; and BriefCam’s Syndex video review, search and analysis software as Tech Tank finalists.
Drones were also a trendy educational topic as part of SIA Education @ISC East. The “Unmanned and Connected Security Theater” featured a lievly discussion from Jason Cansler of Sun Imaging and Mark Schreiber of Safeguards Consulting on whether drones are “friends or foes to the security industry.” The discussion quickly turned to counter-drone technologies and highlighted vendors on the show floor that offered a variety of products and methods for drone prevention.
As mentioned, Reed Exhibitions announced the launch of Unmanned Security & Safety Expo 2018, set to take place as part of ISC East. The event will focus on drones and robotics for commercial and government security and safety use-cases and drone detection/anti-drone solutions. It is an expansion of a similar program that saw success at ISC West in 2017.
SIA Honors Night
An ISC East tradition, the Security Industry Association (SIA) handed out its industry awards at the show. Here’s a recap of the winners:
• John Stroia, President of Hamilton Security, received the 2017 George R. Lippert Memorial Award for long-term service to SIA and the security industry. Stroia has held various volunteer leadership positions with SIA, and he is the immediate past Chairman of the Board.
• Brivo CEO Steve Van Till was honored with the Jay Hauhn Excellence in Partnerships Award.
• David McGowan, Tiffany & Co.’s VP of Global Protection Services, was named SIA’s Insightful Practitioner.
