Morpho Detection, a subsidiary of Safran’s Morpho security business and a maker of explosives, narcotics, chemical, radiological, and nuclear detection systems, announced Tuesday that Karen Bomba has been appointed as the company’s new president and CEO following the resignation of Brad Buswell.
According to a statement, Bomba has more than a decade of executive experience leading organizations within Safran. She most recently served as chairman and CEO of Labinal, Safran’s electrical wiring systems company. Bomba has also served as executive vice president and general manager, as well as chairman and CEO of Safran affiliate Messier-Bugatti USA.
Buswell, a former deputy undersecretary for science and technology at the Department of Homeland Security, was named CEO of Morpho Detection in July 2011 following the departure of Dennis Cooke. He will remain with the company as executive vice president for business development.
“Karen Bomba’s expertise and record successfully running global Safran businesses, combined with her broad industry and development experience, make her an ideal choice to serve our customers and lead Morpho Detection into the future,” said Jay Cohen, chairman of the board, Morpho Detection, Inc. “The Board and I have complete confidence in Karen’s ability to enhance Morpho Detection’s industry-leading position.”
“Morpho Detection is a crucial strategic part of Morpho’s growth strategy and I am certain of Karen Bomba’s ability to lead and grow the company,” said Philippe Petitcolin, Chairman and CEO, Morpho. “Morpho Detection’s current solutions and development pipeline have the ability to revolutionize the security screening process. Bomba’s experience leading the development of new products and worldwide growth of Safran-affiliated businesses makes her uniquely qualified to lead Morpho Detection.”
