Podcast Recap: The anatomy of an innovative security program

Feb. 19, 2024
Mark Freedman discusses the impact geopolitical risk has on private sector businesses, the steps security leaders must take to identify and mitigate both global and domestic threats, and the importance of developing an innovative security program that prioritizes intelligence.

Geopolitical tensions are mounting, and cybersecurity threats are rising to meet them. Politically motivated cyber-attacks are becoming increasingly commonplace, and threat actors from hostile foreign powers no longer limit their focus to government targets. Private sector businesses are now planted firmly in their crosshairs. To keep pace in this turbulent landscape, enterprises must go above and beyond standard security plans.

In this recent episode of Security DNA, host Steve Lasky of SecurityInfoWatch.com is joined by Mark Freedman, CEO and founder of Rebel Global Security, in a discussion about the impact geopolitical risk has on private sector businesses, the steps security leaders must take to identify and mitigate both global and domestic threats, and the importance of developing an innovative security program that prioritizes intelligence.

Mark Freedman: “You need to have an understanding of the risk environment you operate in, the threats that may be targeting your organization, and how your security program as a whole needs to evolve to keep up with that. The days of a security program being focused on fences without knowing what’s going on outside are over.”

Following the breakout conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Freedman founded Rebel Global Security, an organization dedicated to advising business leaders in an era of geopolitical strife. A former strategy consultant, national security officer, and State Department planner, Freedman has spent the bulk of his career advising both senior corporate leaders and government officials on global threats. He is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), and a member of the ASIS Steering Committee on Enterprise Security Risk Management.
