Wal-Mart finally got the second vote it needed Monday from the Union County Board of Adjustment, earning one of two permits it needs to construct a 206,000-square-foot Supercenter at Tom Short and Rea roads in Union County, N.C.
Board members had tentatively approved the permit in September on the condition the retail giant make several improvements -- such as banning overnight parking, limiting most deliveries to daytime hours and providing nighttime security.
Monday's vote made the board's decision final.
Nearby residents opposed to the project because of noise and added traffic have said they will appeal the board's decision in Superior Court.
Wal-Mart now needs a permit from the county's planning board.
