MANATEE - A local nightclub security guard was stabbed while trying to break up a fight early Sunday morning, according to Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies.

The 28-year-old man, a security guard at Club Heat, 5520 14th St. W., said he was breaking up a fight in the club's parking lot when someone in a light-blue or off-white, late-1980s or early-1990s Lincoln sedan drove behind him, a sheriff's office report stated.

The guard felt a sharp pain in his lower-middle back as the four-door Lincoln passed by, according to the report.

Deputies believe the people in the car headed southbound on 14th Street West. But officials were not able to catch them.

The stabbing, which occurred around 1:30 a.m., left the guard with a minor injury, according to the report.

Emergency officials took the guard to Manatee Memorial Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Deputies on Sunday night continued to investigate the case.
