Chief among the honorees was Fredrik Nilsson, Vice President, Americas, Axis Communications Inc., who received the security industry's highest honor, the 2016 George R. Lippert Memorial Award.
Mr. Nilsson actively supports many security industry initiatives. He formerly served on the SIA Board of Directors and the SIA Executive Committee, and he has continued to be a strong contributor to SIA education initiatives. Mr. Nilsson also is a past chairman of Mission 500, a charitable organization backed by the security industry and dedicated to helping children and communities in crisis. The SIA Lippert Award Committee, composed of previous recipients of the Lippert Award, chose Mr. Nilsson from a field of nominees.
The Lippert Award, founded in 1989, is named in honor of George R. Lippert, who dedicated more than 20 years of his life to the security industry and SIA. When evaluating candidates nominated for the award, the SIA Lippert Award Committee considered their long-term service to SIA and the security industry, the impact of their efforts on behalf of SIA and the industry, and their integrity, leadership and diplomacy as demonstrated in industry dealings.
SIA also recognized Tim Eckersley, Senior Vice President and President of the Americas, Allegion, with the Jay Hauhn Excellence in Partnerships Award.
Eckersley has been a consistent advocate for SIA's school security initiatives, including the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS) and the efforts of SIA Government Relations to secure federal legislation and funding for K-12 school security enhancements.
The Jay Hauhn Excellence in Partnerships Award is named in honor of Jay Hauhn. As previous SIA Chairman of the Board, Hauhn demonstrated a steadfast commitment to fostering collaboration among industry trade associations and advancing the interests of their collective memberships and the entire security industry. The Hauhn Award is presented each year to an individual with a SIA member company who has taken specific action(s) to foster collaboration between SIA and industry/practitioner organizations consistent with SIA's overall strategic priorities.
SIA also saluted Dr. Lou Marciani, Director of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi, as the 2016 recipient of its SIA Insightful Practitioner Award.
The SIA Insightful Practitioner Award is presented to a security practitioner who demonstrates leadership and excellence in promoting the implementation of innovative security solutions through education, advocacy and teamwork with the industry and other stakeholders.
Dr. Marciani provides great insight into addressing the issues constituting potential and actual threats and risks to the ongoing security and safety of spectators at sporting events and venues.
