Bradenton, Fla. – August 7, 2007 – GE Security, Inc., a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of the General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), today announced completion of its digital video recorder (DVR) portfolio upgrade with the addition of the SymSafe product set, consisting of SymSafe and SymSafe Pro hybrid DVRs. Joining the SymDec 16 plus 4 DVR, the Sym family hybrid DVRs now allows customers to leverage GE Security's existing cameras and software platforms to create a more robust and integrated security system.
As the security industry continues to evolve, there is a growing need for better integration of products and software. GE Security is taking this need very seriously and putting in place the necessary steps to ensure that its key products are fully integrated. While the Sym family of DVRs is already compatible with GE Security's SymSecure video management software, full integration –-including MASterMind, Facility Commander® Wnx and Alliance -- is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter 2007.
"Integrated security solutions represent the future of physical security," said Dilip Sarangan, security analyst for Frost & Sullivan. "Customers want to implement a complete solution rather than components of one. Integrated security systems help with creating one controlling hardware and software solution that communicates with access control and video surveillance, thereby building customer value and making the system more efficient."
"GE Security is committed to providing customers the most complete and diverse array of reliable and integrated security systems that deliver excellent video performance to meet real-world needs at competitive price points," said Robert Siegel, general manager, Video and Software Solutions for GE Security. "With the completion of the Sym family hybrid DVRs, we now offer GE Security customers a comprehensive portfolio of flexible products and software solutions to fit virtually any video surveillance requirement – from the very basic to most complex."
Targeting the general purpose market, SymSafe and SymSafe Pro combine both digital and analog video solutions, offering excellent recording quality, image resolution, scalability and compatibility that is ideal for the retail, banking and education markets. The SymSafe DVR line offers the choice of four-, eight- or 16-channel configurations to meet the needs of multiple security application sizes and challenges. In addition, two IP channels are available giving customers the opportunity to leverage IP video recording without replacing their existing analog infrastructure or incurring additional infrastructure expenses.
The new SymSafe product set offerings can be used as standalone DVRs or as part of a networked video solution, delivering real-time video recording at 480 frames-per-second (fps) – 600 fps hybrid - at up to 2-CIF resolution. At D1 resolution, the SymSafe family offers up to 240 fps. Other key features of the SymSafe and SymSafe Pro include:
• Cooling Tunnel design to extend HDD life
• Unique "light bar" alarm indicator
• Continuous motion detection, alarm and scheduled recording
• Video specific hard drives
• CD/DVD-RW burner
The SymSafe and SymDec 16 plus 4 product set is the latest advancement in video recording from GE Security, building on the previous industry leading DVMRe and StoreSafe product lines. These hybrid DVRs join the value-line Digia II, offering customers a complete product line-up to meet the size and scope challenges of almost any security system.
