System uses new high-compression scheme to reduce image storage size

BRADENTON, FLA. - GE's Security business has announced the availability of its new WaveJet video compression technology, which lets DVRs store as much as double the video images at medium resolution. Users can now achieve extremely high video compression per megabyte with the new DVMRe-CTII and StoreSafe Pro II models, which incorporate the WaveJet technology. Depending on how the recording options are set, users can get more than a month of continuous recording time on a single DVR.

"Our popular DVMRe and StoreSafe products have taken another step forward with the addition of WaveJet," said Robert Siegel, GE Security's General Manager for Video and Software Solutions. "WaveJet produces more value from a digital video multiplexer/recorder because it provides more hours of recording time. For example, a DVMRe-10CT with a 600GB hard drive generates seven full days of recording time at medium resolution. But, with WaveJet, a DVMRe-CTII with the same drive size will store up to 17 days of images."

WaveJet's high video compression per megabyte offers unprecedented flexibility in selecting video recording quality. For example, the DVMRe-CTII offers nine selectable image quality settings to provide more control over the images the user views and records. Triplex functionality lets users watch live or recorded video while continuing to record high-quality images. By utilizing Parallel Video Processing (PVP(tm)), the DVMRe-CTII can record up to 60 pictures per second.

The StoreSafe Pro II digital video recorder (SDVR) is a standalone unit, incorporating a full-featured triplex (view/record/play simultaneously) multiplexer and digital recorder that incorporates a built-in CD-RW for easy sharing of archived video images.

The DVMRe-CTII and StoreSafe Pro II models with WaveJet technology are available now.
