Volvo Selects MDI's SAFEnet System for Worldwide Operations
MDI Security Systems, a developer of open integrated access control and video security solutions, today announced that the Volvo Group has selected MDI's award-winning SAFEnet Integrated Security & System Management Solution to manage the security operations of their global enterprise.
Founded in 1927 with over 76,000 employees, the Volvo Group is one of the world's leading manufacturers of transportation-related products for commercial use and is well-known across the globe for promoting quality, safety and environmental care. Volvo's product lines include Volvo Trucks, Mack, Renault Trucks, Volvo Buses, Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Penta, Volvo Aero and Volvo Financial Services. The Company is experiencing a record growth year in 2005, with manufacturing facilities expanding at a record pace. Their production sites span over 25 countries and effectively cover 130 markets.
MDI Security Systems and Diebold will begin the deployment phase of this enterprise project, estimated at over $10 million, with the installation of Volvo worldwide headquarters, where they will establish a state-of-the-art global security command and control center to monitor and manage their security data. The award-winning SAFEnet solution, with its Open System Integration (OSI) Platform, provides a "global-view" of all security control points, allowing security teams to monitor high volumes of security information, intelligently interpret real-time risk to their organization and take effective mitigation actions by responding with precision and accuracy.
"We were searching for a solution that could seamlessly integrate Volvo's existing access control and video security infrastructure, while maintaining the ability to scale into hundreds of remote locations across the world," said Ian Francisco, project operations manager for Diebold. "After reviewing our options, MDI's proven history with integrating systems for large customers gave us confidence in choosing SAFEnet as the right solution for this customer," he added.
Besides implementing their products in new Volvo locations, the Diebold and MDI team will also integrate their solution with different legacy systems from competing product lines that are currently in operation at disparate facilities. The cost savings associated with SAFEnet's unique ability to seamlessly integrate with Mercury hardware panels and existing security systems was another reason for Volvo's selection of MDI for their global project.
"We are proud to be partnering with Diebold to integrate and manage the global security operations at Volvo," stated J. Collier Sparks, President and CEO of MDI, Inc. "Our comprehensive solution met Volvo's stringent requirements, calling for a multi-tiered architecture with complete server redundancy in an enterprise environment that maintains a large number of sites housing multiple servers at each location. Working together with Diebold, MDI will combine state-of-the-art security technologies with world-class services, training and implementation to increase Volvo's current competitive advantage in the transportation industry," he added.
A critical factor in Volvo's selection of the MDI solution was its ability to seamlessly integrate access control, alarm management, video assessment and systems control into a centralized management platform that is securely accessible to clients anywhere across the globe. By accomplishing this, SAFEnet empowers users to realize a tremendous return on their security investment. With the SAFEnet solution, security teams are able to economically maintain a higher level of security by minimizing false alarm rates, increasing event focus and accessing dynamic enterprise security management reports as they occur.
In addition, MDI's Integrated Digital Controllers (IDC) IP-based hardware will allow Volvo to maintain a "Zero Degraded Mode" functionality by storing up to one year's worth of essential access control functions and features directly at the door-level: restoring all data back to the central database when connection is re-established.
