Security levels for all public areas in Italian city heightened thanks to company's VMS solution

COPENHAGEN – February 17, 2016.  With the help of Milestone XProtect video management software (VMS), San Lucido in southern Italy has entered the first phase of their Smart City initiative. The security levels for all public areas have been heightened thanks to their new network video management system. San Lucido is now an even safer city for inhabitants and tourists which has improved the urban experience in this beautiful Calabrian city. The focus of the security is primarily on avoiding misdoings, graffiti and other destruction of public property.

The city is also using their Milestone video solution to become more environmentally friendly. Waste in the streets is a burden to the city if it is not detected and disposed efficiently. Now abandoned waste can easily be monitored and traced, ensuring a clean, attractive city.

Milestone Partner GSA di Guido Luigi has installed Milestone XProtect Express to manage 36 Axis network video cameras located in public areas around the city. The local police and security managers of public institutions get an overview of all relevant cameras with the XProtect Smart Client: an easy-to-manage timeline enables them to examine incidents quickly and make informed decisions. The Milestone Mobile client for smartphones allows rapid response by the local police force, providing full situational awareness even when patrolling.

“We have taken the first steps to become a city of the future with the help of Milestone’s video software,” says Fabio Frangella, Security Councilor of San Lucido City. “We are also considering integrating Milestone’s software with other technologies such as license plate recognition and video analytics to become a true Smart City.”

Milestone XProtect is easy to use and offers a wide choice of optimal hardware for any given task. The city is considering integrating the open platform Milestone XProtect with traffic classification software to help clear traffic jams. They are also thinking about an integration that connects an audio IP speaker system with the tourist information panels located at different sights to improve the visiting experience for tourists. The open platform technology design of Milestone XProtect makes everything possible.

San Lucido’s Smart City initiative is part of a larger project initiated by the European Union with the goal of improving quality of life and making cities more sustainable.  This encompasses a more interactive and responsive city administration and safer public spaces.
