July 15, 2015- Tamron Co., Ltd., Saitama, Japan (President & CEO: Morio Ono), specialized manufacturer of optics and one of the leading companies in the security / surveillance equipment industry announces the release of three types of ultra-high-performance machine vision fixed-focal (8mm / 16mm / 25mm) lenses for 1.1"-format 3.1-μm-pixel-pitch imagers (Model: M111FM08 / M111FM16 / M111FM25).
Development Concept
Mega-pixel machine vision cameras used in industrial applications including production equipment, chip mounters, test apparatus, and machining centers are migrating towards even larger-size and finer-pixel imagers.
Tamron currently offers an extensive array of machine vision camera lenses to meet customers' exact needs; Sharp contrast and high-fidelity images are mandated for high-performance production equipment, test apparatus, and printers.
With increasing emphasis on higher-resolution fixed-focal lenses for machine vision, Tamron released, in Jan. 2015, a 50mm F/1.8 lens for 1.1" 3.1-μm-pixel-pitch imagers (Model: M111FM50), the highest-contrast and highest-resolution lens in Tamron's machine vision line-up. Its distinguished optical and mechanical performance has gained a solid reputation from a large number of customers. With the addition of 8mm, 16mm, and 25mm lenses to the 50mm model, Tamron's new portfolio of industry-leading machine vision fixed-focal lenses for 1.1" 3.1-μm-pixel-pitch imagers offers customers optimum choices of four types of lenses.
Tamron continues to take a proactive stance in the development of machine vision fixed-focal lenses for high-resolution mega-pixel imagers, listens to valuable voices from customer, and pursues advanced optical performance and distinguished ease-of-use for customers.
Key Features
1. Industry-Leading High Contrast and Resolution
The lenses, optimized for 3.1-μm-pixel-pitch imagers, equivalent to 1.1" 12 mega-pixels, offer the highest contrast and resolution among Tamron's machine vision fixed-focal lens line-up. Tamron's proprietary optical design ensures identical high contrast and resolution for all four lenses irrespective of focal length.
2. Lens Designed for High-Fidelity Imaging
Use of state-of-the-art optical technology enables high contrast and high resolution from the corner to the periphery of images despite the large aperture size. The highest-contrast and resolution performance in Tamron's machine vision fixed-focal lens line-up also opens gates to other areas of applications including traffic monitoring, notably for ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems).
3. Combination of Advanced Coating Technology and Use of Diverse Types of Lenses
Tamron integrates many advanced technologies such as broad-band anti-reflection coating, selection of lens materials, and leading-edge geometric design to achieve high contrast and resolution required of fixed-focal lenses for 1.1" 3.1-μm-pixel-pitch imagers. Tamron's proprietary coating technology is employed to enhance the lenses' light transmittance, and combinations of diverse types of lens elements are optimized to bring the resolution to the maximum height. An aspherical lens is deployed on a wide-angle model for the first time in Tamron's machine vision lenses.
4. Uncompromised Image Quality at Close Distances
High image-fidelity is maintained at frequently-used close distances as demonstrated by Tamron's other current machine vision fixed-focal lenses.
5. Elaborate Inspection Procedures
Tighter test conditions are applied to ensure high contrast and resolution, providing ultimate uniformity across the field.
6. Enhanced Functionality and Utility
Well-tuned rotation torque of both focus and iris control rings facilitates smooth adjustments of focusing and aperture. For ease of installation, the rings are also equipped with a lock mechanism, similar to Tamron's other current machine vision fixed-focal lens models; the rings can be locked at a choice of three lock screw positions (two positions for the Model: M111FM08).
7. Designed for Rugged Lens Appearance
Metal barrels are adopted for durability and vibration-resiliency, giving a rugged appearance to the lenses.
8. Camera Compatibility
The new high-performance lenses are compatible with a broad range of cameras that use imagers up to 1.1" and an image circle diameter of 17.4mm (an effective image circle diameter of 17.6mm).
