COPENHAGEN – February 20th, 2018. Milestone Systems today releases globally for general availability XProtect 2018 R1 video management software (VMS). One of the many updates to this new version of the Milestone VMS is ramped up hardware acceleration with video decoding that leverages the power of multiple NVIDIA graphic cards.
With cameras becoming more advanced and modern surveillance installations requiring more cameras per server, it is crucial to provide a way to maximize the CPU load. Most VMS systems can only utilize the built-in Intel card, putting all the necessary load for decoding video on the Smart Client on the CPU.
With XProtect 2018 R1, this is the first time a VMS incorporates multiple graphic cards in its video decoding, pushing the boundaries of video management and setting a record in terms of performance. By harnessing the power of multiple NVIDIA graphic cards with Milestone XProtect VMS, it shifts the processing power required for video decoding on the Smart Client from the CPU to the GPU.
“This results in an unparalleled ability to display more high-resolution cameras on the Smart Client as well as use more HD screens for display or as part of the Smart Wall function - without putting any extra load on the CPU,” says Bjorn Eilertsen, CTO at Milestone Systems.

Privacy masking
Our new privacy masking feature allows two kinds of masking: permanent and liftable, both on live and recorded video. It is managed efficiently with user-rights, making sure privacy is well protected at all times.

One-click installer
It makes it possible to configure XProtect faster and easier already during installation, with automatic device detection and retention-time configuration. Users can manage their hard-drive space more efficiently than ever.
“This is an easy installation for the single server installer. What was previously done separately on the Management Client is now easily done already during installation.
