Eric Porterfield graduated from Yale University in 1983 focused on becoming a documentary filmmaker. And while he did have some success in film, his career path ultimately led to his creating the largest broadcast-based continuing medical education (CME) company in North America, Distance Learning Network (DLN), in 1991.

Delivering more than 500 hours of original behavioral health continuing medical education to 45,000+ healthcare professionals working at more than 3,000 healthcare facilities via satellite over a 15-year period, DLN was sold to United Health Group in 2005.

I am a retired Chief Technology Officer from Rockingham County Schools, North Carolina. I began my career in 1997 as a classroom teacher and transitioned to Technology Coordinator and then CTO, utilizing my expertise in technology. Before my retirement, I secured over $5 million in grants for our schools, with a focus on enhancing school safety. I present at conferences in the US and internationally, with my speaking engagements centering on topics such as network security, student safety, grant writing, and classroom technology.

Jim Bennett

Jim Bennett has been Bolante. NET’s Director of Violence and Physical Security since the company was established in 2017. After a short stint as a park ranger, Jim spent the next 29 years in the public safety arena in municipal law enforcement, higher education, public safety, and the fire services. As a popular trainer, speaker, and safety consultant, Jim brings his unique set of experiences to projects related to violence prevention, personal safety, physical security and vulnerability assessments, psychological first aid, behavioral threat assessment, and intervention. He has led an award-winning department, along with highly regarded community policing programs and leadership in developing a fire district emergency operations center. His public safety leadership responsibilities have included municipal crime analysis operations, crime prevention services, and a behavioral threat assessment team. Jim incorporates within his training and consulting the unique experience of a crisis communication expert, having served more than two decades as a public information officer in emergency services, and is the lead instructor for Bolante. NET’s course for public information officers (for FEMA IS-29).Jim continues to build upon his experience as a listener, collaborator, and leader. Bruce A. Canal, CPP, has been in the school security environment for over 25 years, most of which as an end user. He is the Executive Lead for K-12 / Higher Education at Genetec, Inc. and in this capacity, he is responsible for developing and driving business strategy for the education vertical, driving brand awareness, cultivating partnership and end-user relationships. As a subject matter expert in education, he is involved in a broad range of education related initiatives. Mr. Canal is the former director of physical security for the 8th largest school district in the United States, Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, FL. His first career was serving as an officer for the Indiana State Police before accepting his first school director assignment. Mr. Canal is accredited by ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional and is an active member of the “School Safety and Security” community. Canal also sits on the ASIS Foundation Scholarship Committee. He is also a technology committee member of the Partnership Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS K-12) and sits on the board of Zero Now for higher education, as well as an active member of the National School Resource Officers Association. Mr. Canal holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Will Knehr, the Senior Manager of Information Security and Data Privacy at i-PRO Americas, Inc., is a seasoned professional who has been instrumental in securing the company's products and networks. His journey in network security began in 2004, when he embarked on a career in Cryptologic Warfare, conducting cyber defense missions for the NSA, CMF, DoN, DoD, and DISA. His role involved defending, accrediting, certifying, and providing digital forensics and incident response on the nation’s most sensitive and secure networks.
