The Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) has honored Ron Haner of The Alarm Center of Olympia, Wash., with the William N. Moody SIAC Excellence Award. Haner was selected in recognition of decades of service to the industry to maximize the benefit that alarm systems provide to communities. The award was presented during a SIAC press briefing at ISC-West, the nation's largest security conference, held in Las Vegas.
"Ron Haner has worked tirelessly in the Pacific Northwest and nationally to promote mutually beneficial alarm response policies among law enforcement agencies," said SIAC Executive Director Stan Martin. "Ron has been at the forefront of the industry efforts to promote effective use of alarm systems and developing strong public/private partnerships with law enforcement."
Haner, who directs dealer and government programs at The Alarm Center Inc., which monitors over 35,000 alarm system in northwestern U.S. states. Haner has more than 30 years experience in the security alarm industry. He is past president of the Washington Burglar and Fire Alarm Association and serves on the SIAC Alarm Management Response committee. He was instrumental in the development of the industry's Model Cities and Model States alarm response programs.
"I am honored by this recognition of the work I have been involved in for so many years," said Haner. "Alarm users rely on their security systems and depend on law enforcement to respond to activations in a timely manner. I believe strongly in open lines of communication between the industry and law enforcement officials."
Haner is known as the "point man" on ordinance management issues in the Pacific Northwest, according to Ron Walters, field director at SIAC. Government officials in Olympia and Pierce County acknowledge his reasonable approach as an advocate for the alarm industry and users. He is noted for reminding law enforcement officials that most alarm systems work flawlessly. He urges regulatory action that focuses on problem users, while not affecting all alarm owners.
SIAC's board of directors, in recognition of the volunteer leadership of industry activist and ADT executive Bill Moody, last year established the William N. Moody Excellence Award to recognize the outstanding contributions and vision of other individuals. The inaugural award was presented to Brink's executive Kathleen Schraufnagel of Texas last summer, when she was recognized as one of the strongest leaders on alarm response issues in the United States.
SIAC will present the award annually and the selection will continue to be made by its Special Awards Committee. Alarm industry representatives and others working to enhance public safety and maximizing the benefits of alarm systems are eligible for the award.
