MUNICH, Germany -- AuthenTec, the recognized number one semiconductor provider of biometric fingerprint sensors to the global market, has named 15-year European technology industry veteran Marc Gebert as director of marketing and sales in Europe -- and announced plans to expand its presence to meet the growing demand for biometrics in the region.
Mr. Gebert will be based in Germany and oversee the company's overall European marketing and sales operations, including direct sales, dealers and representatives. He will focus on providing support to AuthenTec's existing base of European customers, as well as the ever expanding list of companies seeking to add fingerprint sensors to their PC, wireless and access control devices. During the coming year, AuthenTec also expects to hire additional technical and marketing staff to provide local support for the company's customers throughout the region.
Prior to joining AuthenTec, Mr. Gebert was CEO of AD-Vision Technologies in Munich. Previously, he held a variety of senior level positions of increasing responsibility including director of marketing and applications with Broadcom Corporation; vice president and general manager with Infineon Technologies; account manager with LSI Logic; and product marketing manager and technical project leader with EPCOS, which previously was Siemens Matsushita Corporation.
"AuthenTec has seen strong demand from European electronics manufacturers and service providers who want to add the convenient security of fingerprint biometrics to their devices - particularly in PCs, wireless and access control applications," said Scott Moody, president and CEO of AuthenTec. "Marc's broad technology and market expertise will enable us to better meet this growing demand, and provide strong regional support to enable customers to bring their biometrically enabled products to market even faster."
