ASIS International achieves category A-Liaison status to ISO/TC 292
Alexandria, VA (July 31, 2018)—ASIS International, the world’s largest association for security management professionals, announced that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) granted ASIS International Category-A Liaison status to the Security and Resilience Technical Committee (ISO/TC 292), effective June 27, 2018.
The ISO/TC 292 committee has a broad scope of work that covers a variety of security topics including protective security, continuity and organizational resilience, emergency management, and fraud.
“ASIS sought liaison status to ensure the relevancy, applicability, and integrity of ISO security and resilience standards,” said Bernie Greenawalt, CPP, chairman, ASIS International Standards and Guidelines Commission. “This status provides members the opportunity to collaborate with professionals from around the world to help shape and advance security standards in ISO/TC 292.”
In January, the Standards and Guidelines Commission formed an international task force charged with charting a path forward for ASIS participation in ISO standards. The committee recommended participation as a liaison organization in the ISO/TC 292 as an important step forward.
“Gaining Category-A Liaison status demonstrates ISO recognition of the expertise ASIS members bring to global standardization efforts,” stated Werner Cooreman, CPP, PSP, leader of the international task force. “Through its member base of 35,000 from across 129 countries, ASIS can provide ISO/TC 292 direct access to highly specialized technical experts.”
In the coming months, the Standards and Guidelines Commission will establish a structure for the international panel of experts to support the work in ISO/TC 292. For updates on committee formation, stay tuned to www.asisonline.org.
