Who is tops in the Americas for video management software (VMS)? According to a new report from IMS Research, it's Genetec, a firm which provides security management systems for both video surveillance and access control. The report, which looked at 2011 sales data, puts Genetec as first in the Americas for the first time, and also indicates that the company is now in the top three among VMS vendors in the EMEA region. IMS Research, which was recently bought by Colorado-based HIS, also places Genetec as the second largest VMS vendor in the world.
Despite Genetec's gains in the Americas market, a report released less than one month ago indicated that Milestone Systems outsells Genetec globally.
“Milestone Systems has retained the number one global position in the VMS software category in 2011. In addition to maintaining its position as the leading vendor of VMS, Milestone also grew faster than the total VMS market in 2011, recording 22 percent year-over-year revenue growth versus approximately 17 percent market growth last year,” said IMS Research senior analyst Gary Wong.
While they haven't taken the global market leadership position, Genetec's CEO Pierre Racz said that leading the Americas market was important because the Americas rates as the largest global market for video management software. The firm has won some large contracts over the years, including the video surveillance platform for the City of Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC). Racz added that the company has had to make changes to support the growth, including office expansions around the world.
"We are currently undertaking a significant expansion of our EMEA, APAC and Latin American operations to support strong market growth and enhance customer support," Racz said. "We have recently expanded our offices in Paris and Dubai with state-of-the-art training facilities and hi-tech solutions centers, opened new subsidiaries in the UK and Brazil, and expanded our footprint in Mexico. With our talented and dedicated employees and partners around the world, our new facilities, and our continued investment in technological innovation, there are no limits to the road ahead," concludes Racz.
IMS Research indicated that Genetec's rise to the lead in the Americas VMS market displaced the previous leader of three years. IMS Research did not respond to a request for validation of this market change or a request to identify other top VMS vendors in the Americas.
