Networking firm Cisco is the newest member of Axis Communications' Application Development Partner (ADP) program. The ADP program is designed to build partners with related companies for integrating Axis' IP video products into full, professional surveillance solutions.
The program allows Axis and its partners to collaborate on both technology development and marketing of the solutions. The program brings in potential partner companies that are actively involved in network video and the physical security market. Other Axis ADP program members include companies such as Honeywell, LenSec, Genetec, Exacq, Milestone, OnSSI, Verint and others. The company lists these on the ADP sub-section of the Axis.com website.
Cisco's chief offerings in the area of video surveillance for physical security stem from acquisitions of SyPixx and Broadware. The Broadware technology acquisition allowed Cisco to offer a surveillance management platform, in addition to the variety of encoding and decoding technologies that had been picked up in the SyPixx acquisition. The company offers a number of solutions for moving analog video onto the network, as well as "network-centric" surveillance solutions like video operations management software, virtual matrixes and server systems.
Via its business unit Linksys, the company is competing with network camera manufacturers like Axis Communciations and others. Earlier this week, the company announced a new network camera that offered many of the same features and design elements as you could expect to find in a professional-grade surveillance camera.
